Dublin Airport Increases Passenger Capacity

(PRBuzz.com) April 17, 2013 -- San Francisco, CA- An announcement was made by the Dublin Airport Authority that it will be increasing passenger space with the addition of an extra eight routes department from Dublin per year. Added flights from the existing routes will further the airport's footfall during the high-traffic summer months.

The transatlantic market will have its largest overall expansion, with 200,000 extra seats added in the new plan. American Airlines are planning on starting a new route from JFK in New York, which will take place daily. A tally of 224 flights will be departing from Dublin toward the North American destinations each week during the summer.

Robert Hilliard, who is DAA's Chief Operations Officer, stated that "North America is a key market for Ireland, as we are the largest recipient of US foreign direct investment and Irish firms are huge investors in the US. Both the United States and Canada are also important sources of inbound tourism so it's also pleasing to see a strong growth in seat numbers from North America in 2013 as we celebrate The Gathering,"

There will be paralleled additions that will include routes to European cities such as Oxford, Helsinki, Bremen, while Etihad Airways will be increasing capacity of flights to Abu Dhabi by the early July.

There are under 4 million passengers that pass through Dublin Airport from January to March 2013. In 2012, passengers increased by 4%, that included a 16% increase in long-haul traffic. DAA and other authority companies will be hoping for higher increases in 2013 given the new movements started by initiatives by companies like The Gathering.
