WINSTON-SALEM, NC (May 1017)—Last week’s House repeal of the Affordable Care Act sent shockwaves through the country, threatening some of America’s most vulnerable citizens. The outrage and energy resulting from this misguided legislation makes this the perfect moment to regain seats and flip districts.

Last month’s impressive showing in Georgia’s 6th congressional district special election by Democrat Jon Ossoff, who garnered nearly half of all ballots cast across a wide field, has emboldened many first-time congressional Democratic candidates like third-term City Council Member DD Adams.

Adams, from Winston-Salem, NC, is running to retake the seat from Virginia Foxx (R) of the 5th-district, one held for so long by Steve Neal (D).

“We watched Ossoff’s race closely here in North Carolina, and it gives us hope that we can flip the 5th,” says Adams. “Our district has a similar voter demographic. He’s an example of the change Democrats are hungry for, and I’m ready to serve.”

Democrats need to gain 24 seats to regain control of the House in 2018, and new candidates like third-term City Council Member DD Adams have launched their campaigns early and with full force.

“We know it’s a long road until the primaries, but support is already strong for this victory,” says Adams, a native of the district she will represent.

With the Trump presidency just past 100 days, it’s worth noting the remarkable boost in first-time Democratic candidates running for office in 2018.

“Now is the time to FLIP the 5th. The Voters are turning out to hear new ideas and seeking candidates who have a clear vision and a strong voice for progress,” says Adams, who retired after almost 40 years in manufacturing and management.  “I’m that voice.”
