Pastor Mark. D. Boykin and Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida Call on Assemblies of God Council To Investigate Actions Taken by Hillsong NYC Church For Possibly Allowing An Engaged Homosexual Be A Choir Director and be a Part of the Worship Team.

(Boca Raton, Florida)  Pastor Mark D. Boykin, Senior Pastor a Church of All Nations, a fellowship of the Assemblies of God, and Mr. Anthony Verdugo of the Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida are calling on the General Council of the Assemblies of God to investigate allegations that Hillsong NYC Pastor Carl Lentz allowed Mr. John Canfield, an engaged homosexual, to be a choir director and permitted his engaged partner Reed Kelly to be a part of the choir.
In a December 2014 and January 2015 article, Mr. Josh Canfield confessed that: “I had only recently told my family about [my relationship with] Reed, so that was still really fresh, but it was a time where I was just letting everything down — letting all my walls down. [I thought], "I need to be truthful with everyone." I became truthful with my church. I'm a part of Hillsong NYC. I'm one of their choir directors. I also sing on their Worship team. They've been amazing as well. Nothing has changed there now that I'm completely out and with Reed. He sings in the choir as well.”
Pastor Carl Lentz and Joel Houston are co-pastors of Hillsong New York City, a fellowship of the Hillsong Church which has locations in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in Australia, London, Cape Town, Kiev, Germany, Paris, Moscow, Stockholm, New York City and Copenhagen.  Hillsong Church is headed by Pastor Brian Houston and is a member of the Australian branch of the Assemblies of God.
“It appears that Pastors Carl Lentz and Pastor Joel Houston might have violated the Assemblies of God’s belief on homosexual conduct,” Said Pastor Mark D. Boykin,  “This is a matter that needs to be investigated by the Assemblies of God Council and the Executive Presbytery.” Continue Pastor Boykin.
“No one denies the great influence and major contributions Hillsong has made in today’s churches, specially in the area of worship and with young people, but it is because of that influence that the General Council of the Assemblies of God must investigate this possible violation of the Assemblies of God policies.”
"Five currupt and outlaw judges on the U.S. Supreme Court violated the dignity, equality and voting rights of ALL Americans by illegally and unconstitutionally inventing a so-called 'right' to 'homosexual marriage' and we must never let the declining moral national climate pressure our churches into accepting what is wrong in God's law." said Mr. Anthony Verdugo
The Assemblies of God believes strongly that God has declared great displeasure and opposition toward homosexual conduct. However, He yearns to restore and forgive all who come to Him, including homosexuals and the LGBT community. Unfortunately, many today mislabel those who speak out against the sin of homosexuality as “hate-mongers” and “prejudiced” people seeking to oppress and take away the rights of homosexuals. But these persons view homosexuality from a skewed social perspective devoid of true biblical morality. The Church is called to be faithful to God’s Word in all things. For this reason the Assemblies of God opposes homosexuality and the gay lifestyle recognizing such as sin. But we encourage all members to reach out in love to homosexuals extending to them the grace that leads us all to Christ’s forgiveness. (Official statement from Assemblies of God regarding Homosexual Conduct).
“In the face of a militant homosexual movement that is pressing for legal and social acceptance of homosexuality, the church must keep its focus. First, homosexuals are sinners like everyone and need God’s grace, love, and forgiveness. Second, homosexuals can, through the miracle of the new birth, be set free from the power of sin and live changed moral lives. The church must reach out to all sinners with the love of Christ, no matter what the sin. And we must never let the declining moral climate of our nation pressure us into condoning what God condemns,” ended Pastor Boykin.
