(Harlem, NY)  − The popular online newspaper CulvertChroniclesUSA.Com honored six prominent New York City leaders for outstanding community service as part of their Voice of the People 10th Anniversary Awards Celebration.

“As we celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Culvert Chronicles we felt it was important to give back to the community that has made it possible for us to continue to be the news and voice of the people,” said Dr. Edward Culvert, Publisher of www.culvertchroniclesusa.com.

“The purpose of giving out the community leadership awards is to honor people who make a difference in the lives of everyday New Yorkers without seeking fame or the public spotlight," Culvert said.

The 2015 CulvertChroniclesUSA.Com Community Leadership Award Recipients are:

·     The Percy E Sutton Leadership Award: Anthony Harmon, special assistant to United Federation of Teachers President Michael Mulgrew.

·     The Lloyd E Dickens Leadership Award: Eugene H. Webb, President Emeritus, Webb & Brooker Realty. The first and only African-American to sit on the real estate Board of New York (REBNEY).

·     The Teresa Freeman Distinguished Service Award: Maxine Griffith, Executive Vice President of Government and Community Affairs at Columbia University.

·     Dr. Edward R. Culvert Journalism & Media Leadership Award: Clem Richardson, Novelist, Lecturer and former Newsday/New York Daily News award-winning journalist.

·     Dr. Muriel Petioni Leadership Award: Dr. Deborah Williams, M.D. /PhD of Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine and Pharmacy.

·     The Culvert Chronicles USA Rising Star Award: Lisa Hayes, Lehman College student for her work in her community service.

“These are gifted individuals who deserved to be public recognized and cheered so that they are encouraged and know that they are appreciated,” Dr. Culvert said.

As part of the ceremony, Rep. Charles Rangel presented Dr. Culvert a special citation in honor of the Culvert Chronicles USA years of dedication and service to the community.

New York City Councilwoman Inez Dickens said: “No one has done more to champion our black elected officials then Dr. Culvert and the culvert chronicles. I salute Eugene Webb …and the other honorees who are truly deserving.”

Dr. Culvert said that the individual awards were named “to honor the memory and legacy of those outstanding New Yorkers who are no longer with us.”

“We proudly salute our current honorees as we remember that we stand on the broad shoulders of those who came before use,” Dr. Culvert said.

The Culvert Chronicles Community Leadership Award ceremony was held at the famous Sylvia’s Restaurant in Harlem and co-hosted by Dr. Culvert; Curtis Taylor, Curtis Media Solutions; and Stephanie Brown of First Baptist Church of Central Harlem.

Special community guests and award presenters include: Robin Verges of Rubenstein Associates; Darlene M. Linen of First Baptist Church of Central Harlem; Civil Rights Attorney Eric Sanders of The Sanders Firm PC; and Pastor Jack Royster of the Harlem-based Institute of Leadership (IFL).
