Kids Wish Network and local sponsors fulfill wish for Wallingford teen

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (PRBuzz) October 26, 2010 -- National charity Kids Wish Network grants the wish of a 17-year-old Wallingford boy who is battling a life-threatening illness.

When Joseph's mother, Stacey, began looking for a wish granting organization to grant a wish to her son, she came across the website for Kids Wish Network and referred Joseph to the organization.  She didn't mention any of this to her son.

After receiving an application from Kids Wish Network and filling out the requested info, Stacey waited to hear if Joseph's wish would be fulfilled.  A few weeks after submitting the application, she received a letter in the mail informing her that Joseph would be getting a wish from Kids Wish Network.  Stacey still did not mention any of this to Joseph.

A few weeks later, when a wish coordinator from Kids Wish Network called Stacey and informed her that she would be working on Joseph's wish and needed to speak with Joseph to confirm what his wish was, Stacey decided to tell Joseph that he had to pick a wish just in case he was chosen.  Joseph had no idea that his wish for a Best Buy shopping spree would actually be coming true in just a short time.

"He didn't even know it was happening until day of.  He had no clue until the limo pulled up," Stacey said.  "I had told everybody that we were going to dinner at my brother's house and I saw the limo pulling up and told him we have to go.  He saw it and said, 'whose limo is that?' and I told him, 'that's your limo!'"

Joseph's first limo ride took him straight to Best Buy in Newington where he had $1,000 to spend on whatever he wanted.  Stacey said that Joseph got a little bit of everything.

"He got a very nice laptop and a pretty good sized stereo system with a docking station for his iPod.  He also got two wireless controllers for his game system and two video games, as well as two CDs and a Blu-ray disk," she said.

After the spree, Joseph and his mom were treated to dinner at Hometown Pizza.  Stacey said it was a great day.

"It was a perfect ending to a perfect day," she said.  "Joseph loved everything."

Although Joseph's wish was to have a shopping spree, his wish coordinator found out that he is a huge Corvette fan and set up some special arrangements with the owner of the Corvette Center, the folks at Lime Rock Park and the Sports Car Driving Association.

"We got a day at Lime Rock where he got to ride shotgun in a Corvette.  That in itself would have been enough for his wish but it was an added extra.  He absolutely loved it," said Stacey.

The once in a lifetime experience is something that, according to Stacey, she and Joseph will never forget.

"Everything was above and beyond what I was expecting.  Joseph has been telling everybody all about it," she said.

Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Joseph's wish extra special: Newington Best Buy, Hometown Pizza & Restaurant, Liberty Limousine Service, UCI/Dream Giveaway, Corvette Center, Sports Car Driving Association LLC
