CHICAGO – For the second year in a row, The Touching Hands Project (THP) supported the work of surgeons, nurses, anesthetists, therapists, and medical professionals who volunteered their time to provide free hand surgery for uninsured and underinsured patients in four locations across the U.S. This event is Hand Day 2017, which took place in Atlanta at Georgia Hand Shoulder and Elbow, Philadelphia at The Philadelphia Hand Center and San Francisco at the San Francisco Surgery Center on November 11, and in Nashville at Vanderbilt on August 5.

During this national event, more than 150 volunteers were able to treat 35 patients in their local communities, free of charge, allowing many people to now live pain-free or return to work with functioning hands. Hand Day will take place again in 2018, and THP has a goal of expanding from 4 locations to 8.

The Touching Hands Project (THP) provides free hand surgery and hand therapy to adults and children in underserved communities in the U.S. and around the world. THP’s volunteer medical teams treat those who suffer from serious hand deformities and injuries but have little or no access to specialized care. THP is funded generously by the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand. The mission work of THP, including Hand Day, is made possible by individual donors and medical supply companies from around the world.

You can help even more needy patients receive the hand care they need by donating today to THP. Learn more about giving medical supplies or partnering with THP by visiting www.TouchingHandsProject.org. Read about this year's Atlanta Hand Day on our blog.
