ORANGE, CA. November 13, 2017. The American College of Medical Scribe Specialists (ACMSS) is now offering courses in allied health professions to allow Certified Medical Scribe Specialists to build on their CMSS credential and add value to themselves and the Physician/CMSS Teams they work on. Academic institutions and medical practices that conduct training can purchase volume licenses for these courses and an instructor will be assigned to present them at their sites.

“As the CMSS credential offered through ACMSS has evolved, so too has the role of Certified Medical Scribe Specialists, assisting providers and practices with more and more non-clinical and clinical tasks to improve care and workflow efficiencies,” says ACMSS Executive Director Kristin Hagen.  “In recognition of this evolution, ACMSS is expanding its education and training offerings to increase career opportunities for Certified Medical Scribe Specialists and strengthen Physician/CMSS teams throughout the nation.”

Course Name: Medical Assistant Onsite Training Package (In Facility)
Cost: $3,495
Hours: 218 (98 In-Classroom Hours/120 Clinical Hours)
Length: 3 months
Setting: In clinic setting only, per facility/hospital

 

This 218-hour onsite program prepares students to be professional Medical Assistants dedicated to patient care management. Graduates will be equipped to assist physicians with examinations and treatments, take medical histories, perform diagnostic tests, expose X-ray films, sterilize instruments and supplies, assist with minor surgery and administer medications. The program goal is to prepare competent entry-level medical assistants in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. This course also prepares the student to take the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists (ACMSS), Medical Scribe Certification & Aptitude Test (MSCAT) as a proficient credentialed Certified Medical Scribe Specialist (CMSS). Minimum of five students, and please allow three months lead time to get an instructor assigned to your site.

Course Name: Medical Assistant Career Prep Online Training Package (Online Only)

Cost: $2,995
Hours: 175 Hours
Length: 3 to 12 Months
Setting: Online

The Medical Assistant is more important than ever. The Medical Assistant is the most versatile member of the healthcare team and is an important part of the successful physician practice.  Although the skills the Medical Assistant performs will vary among medical offices, this course will fully prepare the student with a wide variety of skills, making him or her an essential part of the healthcare team. This 175-hour online course is generally completed in 3 to 4 months but students can take up to 12 months to complete this course and will provide a comprehensive overview of all aspects of clinical medical assisting, including care and management of the patient, the different body systems, administering and injecting medications, insurance and coding requirements, the special needs of pediatric and geriatric patients, and employment opportunities and strategies for Medical Assistants. This course also prepares the student to take the American College of Medical Scribe Specialists (ACMSS), Medical Scribe Certification & Aptitude Test (MSCAT) as a proficient credentialed Certified Medical Scribe Specialist (CMSS).

Course Name: EKG Technician
Cost: $1,495
Hours: 80 In-Classroom Hours
Length: 3 months
Setting: In clinic setting only, per facility/hospital

This 80-hour onsite EKG Technician course will prepare students to serve as EKG Technicians and take relevant national certifying exams. The course will combine theory and practice to provide instruction in all aspects of EKG technology and patient care.  Students will learn about anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, appropriate patient care, and the legal and medical aspects of patient care. The course will also include comprehensive instruction in EKG placement and interpretation, along with information regarding the role of the EKG in diagnosing and managing cardiovascular problems. In addition to theoretical instruction, students will apply what they are learning in the course through practical, lab-based activities.  Upon completion of this course, students will be fully prepared to work as an EKG Technician. Students must either be CMSS certified or be concurrently enrolled in a course that leads to CMSS certification. Minimum of five students, and please allow three months lead time to get an instructor assigned to your site.

Course Name: Phlebotomy Technician
Cost: $1,995
Hours: 124 (84 In-Classroom Hours/40 Internship Hours)
Length: 3 months
Setting: In clinic setting only, per facility/hospital

This 124-hour onsite program prepares students to be professional phlebotomy technicians dedicated to the art of blood withdrawal. Graduates are equipped to prepare the patient, perform venipuncture and assist to maintain the quality of the specimen. The program goal is to prepare competent entry-level phlebotomy technicians in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.  Students must either be CMSS certified or be concurrently enrolled in a course that leads to CMSS certification. Course not available in California.
