FROM BRISBANE TO SIDNEY: THE CONSORZIO ITALIA DI VINI E SAPORI FLIES BACK AGAIN TO AUSTRALIA

The “Italia di Vini e sapori” Consorzio flies back again to Australia: after attending the The Good Food and Wine Show in Brisbane at the end of October, the Consorzio will now reach the trade and press key opinion leaders in Sidney. The 6th of December the Consorzio will held an exclusive wine dinner to present a selection of top labels thanks to the collaboration of the brand ambassador of I love Italian Food.

The Italia di Vini e Sapori Consorzio aims to enhance and support the wine tradition of the Veneto territory by stimulating and spreading an interest towards the quality wines of the Veneto territory. Amongst its priorities, the Consorzio promotes P.D.O. and P.G.D.O. quality wines, taking them beyond European borders. Right now Australia is one of the most exciting wine consumption markets in the world. A wine drinking population of over 11 million is increasing in sophistication and starting to explore new styles of wine. Australian wine consumers are very interested in trying the offerings from other wine producing nations – something that was not the case at the beginning of the millennium.

The results of the 2017 Wine Australia Consumer Study Report show that two-thirds of respondents indicated they had purchased or tried Australian wine in the past 12 months. However, respondents were more apt to have purchased wine from California, Italy, and France over the past year. Although quality perceptions of Australian wine were better than average (3.7 on a 5-point quality scale), French, Italian, and California wines were perceived as higher in quality (4.2 - 4.4).

Food friendliness came up frequently in connection with Italian wine (14%). That’s one of the reason for the Consorzio to raise the partnership with I Love Italian Food, an international network and a non-profit organization, that spreads its passion for Italian food and cuisine worldwide. At present, the community features more than 1.000.000 users – 95% of whom are foreigners – and a network of thousands of professionals of the sector, made of bloggers, chefs, restaurateurs, buyers and distributors. The network promotes Made in Italy agricultural and food products by realizing international events to give food professionals a chance to meet and through projects it realizes together with its associate partners.

The majority of Australian consumers think of Italy as having small farms and great food, with luxury products and with being expensive and traditional. The wines and companies presented by the Consorzio Italia di Vini e Sapori meet these expectations and the dinner will be  best way to win over  these “new drinkers” and to lay the basis for new market: Italian and Veneto wines have never enjoyed such a high profile in Australia.
