GasTechno® Receives International Award for GTL Innovation

Gas Technologies LLC (GasTechno®) received the Most Innovative Gas Technology award at the International Commonwealth of Independent States (InterCIS) Oil and Gas Summit recently held in Baku, Azerbaijan Republic. The InterCIS Summit is a global oil and gas event where Arabian companies meet with industry titans including BP, Saudi Aramco, and Haliburton. Founder and CEO Walter Breidenstein said “In 2013, our patents were ranked first overall in the US state of Michigan but I am extremely pleased that, after raising funds from family and friends to turn the concept into a commercial-scale operating plant, we have gained this prestigious recognition by our industry at the international level. However, the real validation will come from our clients who are seeking capital efficient solutions for eliminating gas flaring. This is what GasTechno and its GTL industry peers are striving toward.”

Under its Zero Routine Flaring by 2030 initiative, the World Bank set a 2030 target to eliminate associated gas flaring which has been jointly endorsed by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the major oil exporting nations of Central Asia. The market is massive for GTL technologies to convert wasted associated gas to valuable  fuels and chemicals with Russia alone responsible for flaring 21.2 billion cubic meters per year, equivalent to 40.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2e). A map of global flaring activity can be seen at With the relatively recent growth of oil and gas production in Central Asia, the countries are keen to adopt the most advanced technologies to reduce emissions, minimize pollution and capture value from saleable end products produced by innovative gas-to-liquids conversion technologies like GasTechno®.

The GasTechno® solution continues to gather momentum and increasing attention from around the world. Its small footprint and light weight makes it the ideal GTL solution for shallow water E&P such as the Caspian Sea. A study in 2016 by DNV indicated that the GasTechno® Mini-GTL® plant can be scaled up to 10 Mscfd (103 million cubic meter per year) and, with further research, could be adapted to a marine environment. Although GasTechno’s initial focus will be the shale plays of North America, it is seeking local partners as part of its international expansion plans to qualify the technology for onshore and offshore applications in Malaysia, India, Russia, Central Asia and Middle East.
