World War 2 Survival Novel Knocks Mockingjay Off Its Perch

The Hidden Village by Imogen Matthews has risen rapidly up the UK Amazon ebook rankings to become a Young Adult best seller. Since September 2017, the novel outsells Suzanne Collins’ Mockingjay title, the last part of the popular Hunger Games trilogy.

The Hidden Village, based on real events that took place in wartime Holland, has captured the imagination of readers

worldwide with its fast-paced narrative.

Matthews, whose mother was Dutch, conceived the idea for her book after she came across underground huts hidden away deep in the Veluwe woods in Holland. She discovered they’d been built to give Jews shelter in this forgotten corner of Holland during WW2.

“I found it hard to imagine that up to 100 people had lived in these woods for nearly two years without being discovered by the Germans,” comments Oxford author Imogen Matthews. “But it really happened and I was compelled to write a fictional story about the courage of those prepared to put their own lives at risk to save others.”

                                                                                      “compulsive reading.”

The characters are so real that you get drawn into their lives and their emotions as they battle the dramas unfolding in their everyday existence.”

“I stayed up late many a night reading 'just one more chapter' of this excellent book. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in historical fiction involving the plight of the Jewish people during World War II.”

The Hidden Village was published in May 2017 by Amsterdam Publishers, which specialises in Holocaust fiction and non-fiction. ISBN: 978-9492371256, getBook.at/hiddenvillage
