Protogenesis News Release June 29, 2017 Cardiff, CA

Waterside Productions announces the acquisition of English-version Rights of Alysia Helming’s Debut Young Adult Novel, Protogenesis, by Black Rose Writing.

Reagan Rothe, from Black Rose Writing of Castroville, Texas, has acquired the English language rights to Protogenesis, the debut young adult novel from author Alysia Helming, under the representation of agent Johanna Maaghul of Waterside Productions. The book has an expected publication date of November 9, 2017.

The novel chronicles the American teenage girl, Helene, and the devastation over her mother’s sudden apparent accidental death, and her abrupt move across the world from California to Greece to live with an oddly-eccentric Godfather, Janus, and begin a new life in Athens.

Her adventures take her through discoveries and into an alternate world, opening her eyes to an entirely new existence that leads back to the deepest roots of modern civilization and ancient Greek mythology. Through her journeys and her quest to understand what happened to her mother, Helene develops super human powers and discovers the stories of the gods from the ancient Greek myths, taking the reader on a journey between two worlds.

Throughout all this, Helene has to face all the usual travails of being a teenager, learn to survive a new school, live in a different culture, and process the highs and lows of new love.

About the Author

Protogenesis is Alysia’s first novel, expected to be the first in a series. She travels regularly between her home in the Oakland Hills, California, and Athens Greece, the primary setting for her novel series.

From the time of her original pilgrimage to Greece in 2015, Alysia has met many friends and collaborators that have helped her to thoroughly understand the rich culture, mythology and unique challenges that the Greek people face through the current crisis there. As a result, her mission is to help Greece by offering a message of hope and to drive tourism there through her book series. Her ‘journey behind the writing’ is also in the works as for both print and the screen.

When she isn’t writing, Alysia is considered a ‘Clean Energy Guru.’ She’s the Executive Vice President of Green Reach, Inc., a diversified renewable energy company, which manages the affairs of the Helming Family Trust. She is also a Board Director and a majority investor/owner in Pristine Sun, a major solar independent power producer in the United States.
