Outskirts Press Announces the Release of Aura of Mystique: Reflections on My Life, Business, Illusion and Reality — New Memoir by David V. Adams

February 11, 2017 – Denver, CO and Los Angeles, CA – Aura of Mystique is the story of David Adams, born into a Hollywood family of film stars, directors, and writers. His childhood was confused and without direction, but he became a successful businessman, finding personal and professional success through a philosophy of independence and service to others. His compelling memoir has been published by Outskirts Press—the fastest-growing full-service self-publishing and book marketing company.

David V. Adams’ grandfather, King Vidor—the pioneering movie director and writer regarded as the Steven Spielberg of his era—wrote in his autobiography, A Tree Is a Tree: “The magic of the movies is obvious, the illusion of the other world more subtle. But the stage is there, the drama is ours to construct, the climax is ours to create. We have been given the privilege of choice in the magic story we write…life has designated us all magicians. The illusion must not be permitted to dictate to its master.”

Adams reached the same conclusion from an entirely different perspective. “There’s a distinctive quality,” he writes, “that surrounds a certain people, an aura of heightened value, interest, or meaning arising from their attitudes and beliefs. It imputes a special power or mystery, an air of glamor, charm, and mystery—an aura of mystique, in fact.”

The author’s grandmother was Florence Arto, the silent movie beauty who made more than 50 films before retiring at the age of 34 at the dawn of talking pictures. She was married a second time to the famed violinist Jascha Heifetz in 1928; David’s mother, Suzanne, was their only child together. Her own tale is told with the innocence of a child. She lived on the edge of her mother’s film star lifestyle, marrying four times, twice to the same man.

David's early life was a succession of schools, homes, fathers and an ever-increasing family. By the age of 18 he was a young man living in Los Angeles without direction or foundation. He worked as a truck driver and a carpenter after graduating high school before being drafted in the Army in 1961. A student of life, he observed what was going on around him and began to construct a life philosophy based on the force and power of knowledge and the mystique it endows the possessor.
