Fritz and Balthazar - Charming adventure story about mice who want to save their home

An old oak stands is all that stands in the way of a straighter road. It has to be felled. There is just one problem: the oak is home to some animals. Among them, the two mice Fritz and Balthazar. Fritz overheard humans talking about their plan and tells his great-grandfather about it. Together, they ask the ancient tree spirit that lives in the oak for help. The spirit himself is not quite sure what to do and passes the message on to the wise owl who lives in the top of the tree. Of course, the owl also does not want to lose the oak. Together, the animals decide that they cannot just let humans do whatever they want just to get a slightly straighter road. They come up with a plan - but do some small animals have any chance against humans and their machines?

Children will love the charming characters and the lovely illustrations in "Fritz and Balthazar" by Bodo Henningsen. The story is exciting and entertaining but also teaches children a lot about how the actions of humans affect the world of animals. It is a story that is not only meant to keep childen occupied for a while; it is a story that is supposed to make children - and maybe also their parents - think about the welfare of animals. Parents and children can use this book as a starting point for discussions about the environment and be inspired to live in a way that causes less harm to our planet and the other beings we share it with.
