Wisconsin Resident Chooses Michigan to Start Dental Practice |

Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, September 28, 2007 - Dr. Zach McCallum, D.D.S, a lifelong resident of Wisconsin, started his dental practice in August as part of the Premier Dental Group, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. When asked why he thought this area was the right fit, Dr. McCallum responded that he sees "a community that not only posesses a strong foundation and a history of success, but one that has excellent growth potential and a bright future." Contrary to this optimism, much of the attention payed to the Detroit community as of late has centered around the struggles of the automotive industry. When asked if these struggles worry him as a business owner, Dr. McCallum responded by saying "every community has it's ups and downs, right now Detroit is being tested. The auto makers in this state are going to rebound, and I want to be here when they do."
Despite recent concerns, the Detroit metro area has shown sustained growth in years past and appears to be in position to continue this trend. According to the census bureau, Oakland county has seen an increase in population every year except one, from 1983 to 2006. Additionally, occupational projections released by the state of Michigan predict a growth in employment of 6.8 percent, equivalent to 143,886 new jobs in the Detroit area alone by the year 2014. While the majority of attention is payed to recent disappointments of a few large corporations, businesses such as the one started by Dr. McCallum are confident in their endeavors. "People are what decide the fate of any city and the people of the Detroit metro area are hard-working, sincere individuals that believe in this community. I want my dental practice to be a part of the growth and prosperity that this area has been accustomed to and will continue to experience in the future."
Dr. McCallum, recipient of the 2006 International College of Dentists, Dr. David A. Sampe award, turned down multiple offers to practice dentistry in his home state, but says he has no regrets in leaving familiarity behind. "Of course I will miss being close to my family and friends, but they understand that this is a great opportunity for me.
