Video-based Consumer Electronics Website Launched
September 19, 2007
Sydney, Australia: Ritchie’s Room, an industry and community-driven website focused on providing video-based information and advice on categories and technology related to consumer electronics, has been launched.

Visitors to www.ritchiesroom.tv will be able to view videos and share their knowledge in the areas of Televisions, Computers, Audio & Video products, Digital Cameras, GPS, Games and Mobile Phones.

The site is split into three distinct rooms: “Tech Bite” offers overviews and explanations on new products and technology; “Word on the Street” is where members can post their own video reviews and opinions on the latest products; and “Advice Avenue” is a video based forum for the exchange of advice, ideas and troubleshooting tips.

“Ritchie’s Room is the first consumer electronics specific destination to provide visitors the ability to share their own know-how in a video format. Imagine being able to see exactly how to connect a cable from one component to another visually, on a screen.

“No one has really been able to capture the knowledge base that exists in the industry and the community in a visual set-up. We want to facilitate that exchange of ideas within a video based format and we have created a platform to do just that,” said Ritchie Djamhur, co-founder of Broadcast2.

Ritchie’s Room has already hit the ground running, by streaming produced content through the Bing Lee Retail website and running a creative video competition in partnership with Mio Technology Australia.

Consumers have the chance to win one of three new Mio DigiWalker™ C520s Widescreen GPS by making a short film on why they need a Mio GPS device.

The competition, called ‘Why I Need a Mio’, aims to find out what the driving factors are for consumers wanting and using a Mio DigiWalker™ GPS product. The competition is a partnership between new consumer electronics site, Ritchie’s Room, and Mio Technology Limited, developers of the Mio DigiWalker™ range of GPS products.

“Whether it’s making navigation easy, discovering the world around them, or a complete inability to read a traditional map, we want to know why consumers want a
Mio DigiWalker™ GPS,” said Daniel Antonello, Australian Marketing Manager for Mio Technology Limited.

Entrants are encouraged to flex their creativity and originality to build the popularity of their film. The competition is peer-based and the three entrants with the greatest number of views at the end of the competition will win 1 of 3 Mio Digiwalker C520 Widescreen GPS valued at AU$499. Go to the Ritchie’s Room website for more information.

“One of the great benefits of our platform is the ability to share information not just within our website, but to share videos across existing online destinations as well”, said Michael Cosmidis, co-founder of Broadcast2. “Any website that serves the consumer electronics community can easily use our platform to stream their own video reviews and advice onto their site, and those videos will also be part of a community dedicated to this industry.”
