Nov 21, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --Sep 25, 2007 -- Los Angeles, CA , Jarmo Ylänen was just interviewed by art and entertainment magazine, Artist Interviews.
Ylänen lives in Helsinki , Finland , painting landscapes, still life and portraits. He paints with an incredible resemblance of the masters, but his art is so much more than that. His paintings render Vincent Van Gogh’s art in the 21st Century by painting Marilyn Monroe as the painter himself would have done. Jarmo captures the art of Van Gogh and glancing at his paintings one can admire his kind soul and his passion for painting.
Jarmo is the son of a Russian emigrant, grandson of a General of the Russian Czar’s army and with a grandmother who was a Polish Baroness. However, Jarmo Ylänen lives a simple and humble life in Helsinki with a regular job until August 1999 when he suddenly started creating art pieces in the Van Gogh's style. He said: “When I started painting in August 1999 it was as though I had been struck by lightning. The experience was so intense that I painted fervently day and night. At times with both hands simultaneously.” Being an inspired artist, he has not studied art, art history nor ever attended any kind of art class, but his work comes to him from his own inner visions and dreams.
What unknown energy made him create such paintings? His art is a mystery. How can a man who has not studied art, pick up brushes, paint and complete a canvas as if it were done by Van Gogh himself? People have been asking the same questions about Jarmo Ylänen’s art. Probably we will never find the true answers for all of our questions about Jarmo, because not even he can explain them. To the art world, the important fact remains that he has brought Vincent Van Gogh back to life today, in the 21st Century, through his wonderful paintings. Jarmo’s amazing story and artwork leaves the questions burning inside of us, wondering about the divine gift that is called art, our souls and the metaphysical issues that are still mysteries to us.
His artwork has been sent to be exhibited in several countries such as Egypt (Cairo), Australia , Hungary and of course, in Finland .
