Textbooks are now eBooks
January 01, 2008
MAIDENHEAD, UK 1ST JANUARY 2008
John Kelleher, a secondary school teacher from Maidenhead has published an electronic textbook for GCSE Religious Studies, which is available for download from www.lulu.com today, in an effort to improve the quality of teaching and learning resources for the subject.

Mr Kelleher became frustrated by existing textbooks for Religious Studies and so began writing a guide for his own students. Having refined the textbook by everyday use in lessons, he has now published it as the opening product for his Format Productions eLearning company.

“The age of printed textbooks is over,” says Mr Kelleher “The requirements of teaching and learning change so rapidly that textbooks are out of date almost as soon as they are published. This is especially the case in a subject like Religious Studies where changes in society influence the accuracy of a student’s answers. Publishing electronic textbooks, which can be downloaded as PDF files, means that authors can update their materials and have it in students’ hands as quickly as they can write new material! This is the future of education.”

Written over the course of two years whilst teaching the AQA Specification B GCSE course himself, Mr Kelleher gave every one of his students a printed copy of the textbook before their final examination last year and noticed a significant jump in results compared to the cohort’s mock grades. A few small improvements were made in late 2007and it’s now available to download online!

Available as two small PDF files (each costing just £2.50), the textbooks can be downloaded from http://www.format-productions.com/students.aspx and clicking on the “Lulu Buy Now” button.
