Spending on outsourcing IT services is likely to increase next year in the face of weakening global economies, according to a poll of IT professionals.
Of the 250 respondents from global companies, some 52 per cent said the impact of financial turmoil would prompt them to increase their outsourcing spend, Syntel's TrendScan study revealed.
Conversely, just 28 per cent said their companies would spend less overall to conserve budgets, while 19 per cent said their outsourcing outlay would remain at around the same level as last year.
Bharat Desai, chairman and chief executive officer of Syntel, said: "In a weak or uncertain economy, companies look for technology solutions that will increase productivity, efficiency and savings."
Mr Desai added: "We are not surprised to see that over half the respondents in our survey plan to increase their spending in 2008 despite threats of a down economy. Outsourcing is a hedge against general IT costs and can be a strategic component of research and development."
