Students Teach Sustainability Through Comics
October 09, 2007
Oct 10, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --Melbourne, VIC, Australia, 10/10/2007 - YAXPERT, a Young Achievement Australia (YAA) Biotechnology Entrepreneur Program (BEP) company was formed in May 2007. The aim of BEP is to encourage science students to pursue business. YAXPERT is sponsored by the Victorian Government’s Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development (DIIRD).
YAXPERT aims to develop innovative 'hands-on' learning solutions for kids. Enviromanya contains 24 experiments in a comic style manual along with tools, materials and video demonstrations on a CD. The manual follows the story of 6 characters who assign the kid various missions that demonstrate environmental and sustainability problems before showing how biotechnology can solve these problems. The kit is closely built around YAXPERT's 7 Step Learning Cycle, a unique learning and development model that integrates information, skill development and extended learning which includes the online support forum, located at http://forum.yaxpert.com
YAXPERT believes that their approach to developing science kits is more likely to attract and benefit kids while making them environmentally aware. The founders also believe that Enviromanya will encourage kids to choose biotechnology as a career pathway in the future.
YAXPERT’s members consist of nine tertiary students and early-career graduates from science and engineering looking to acquire business skills. The company is advised by successful mentors from the biotechnology and business sectors.
Enviromanya can be bought online at http://www.yaxpert.com for A$45. Enviromanya was released a fortnight ago and sales have been steadily increasing since.
