NHRA driver Brandon “The Kid” Lewis begins new journey at familiar Texas Motorplex

BROKEN ARROW, OKLA -- Apr 11, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ -- Of all the drag strips 21-year-old drag racer Brandon “The Kid” Lewis has raced at, he’s probably most familiar with Texas Motorplex.

“I don’t have nearly as much experience or as many passes on any track as a lot of the guys we race against,” Lewis said. “But we’ve been to Ennis several times and I think I’m as comfortable racing there as I am anywhere.”

It will be interesting to see if that level of comfort carries over to this event for Lewis who will be making his debut in the a-fuel dragster class. He makes the switch after two seasons racing top alcohol funny car.

“It will be fun to see if anyone is surprised when we show up with a different car,” the third-year racer said. “It’s going to be a completely different deal for us. There should be less maintenance for the crew and we will have the full attention of Tom Conway, who will be tuning for us.”

Lewis must make one more pass in the dragster he purchased from Conway to complete his licensing for the class. As long as that pass is completed – faster than 6.20 seconds and over 200 mph – before the beginning of Friday’s event, Lewis will be eligible to compete against some of the best dragster teams in the sport.

“With Tom’s help we should figure the car out pretty quickly,” he said, “but we still have to compete in one of the toughest classes in a loaded division. It’s going to be a lot of fun to line up against Morgan Lucas, Spencer Massey, Kate Harker and Brandon Pierce, but it won’t be easy.”
