Oct 04, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --In a direct response to modern fixations with celebrity, identity and self awareness Seran Kubisa tackles issues that are the foundations of modern life.

In an amalgamation of diverse areas of scientific research SERAN KUBISA’s forthcoming exhibition - MEMORIES ARE MADE OF THIS – is a breath-taking examination of what makes human experience.

Her work exposes the dichotomy that exists in modern life. She examines how the banal can become extraordinary. In a direct response to modern fixations with celebrity, identity and self-awareness she tackles issues that are the foundations of modern life.
Artist: Seran Kubisa

NOTES ON THE EXHIBITION:

Kubisa’s work has been influenced by concepts in science and for many years she has explored ‘Deep Space’. Her work on our place in the universe began in the early 1990’s when she downloaded the first images from Hubble Telescope.

Analysing fragments of personal household items, Seran Kubisa identified microscopic patterns locked deep inside everyday things. Through her perception the ordinary and banal become inspirational.

Kubisa has taken the kitchen into the art gallery to form the focus for her current paintings. With her still life paintings , familiar items becomes magical. Delving into the microscopic pattern, down to a molecule and atomic state, things which one often take for granted become dynamic, living statements about life and the nature of existence.

Kubisa’s originality led to a ‘Leverhulme Trust’ award which she used to engage with Neuroscience and explorations of technology. She continued to develop images along these themes as resident artist at the University of Southampton from 2001-2002.

Memories are the final link in the chain. Neuroscience, the discipline that studies memory and where it is stored and how it is triggered in the brain have inspired her work. By her use of technology and laser microscopes she has unlocked the door to a myriad of questions that are at the very core of what makes us who we are.

About the Press Release
It is not often that a living artist is invited to open a prestigious new gallery. It is even rarer when a gallery opens with a month-long solo show but that is exactly what happened to Seran Kubisa.
