MUCK and MySpace. The isolation of the personal profile. Apr 25, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ -- Performance artist Maya Suess is presenting her newest work MUCK at the Alexander Centre, Vancouver, on May 10th 2007, 8 pm-11pm. FREE Through her unique mix of performance art and cabaret, MUCK brings a gritty look into how we perform our selves, with a bleak twist on the phenomenon of the "personal profile." Breaking away from theatrical viewing, audience members watch the performers through carnival style boxes. Acting more like voyeurs, the audience is invited to come right up close, put their noses on the glass, and spy into the character's isolated space. As culmination of her MFA From Simon Fraser's School of Contemporary Arts, MUCK is Suess at her finest. With eight original songs, written in the vein of Kurt Veill and Burtolt Brecht, Suess looks deep into cabaret's closet… Suess, whose recent work Helmet Piece was shown at the Vancouver Art Gallery last fall, has been exhibiting internationally in a range of mediums. Recently returning from the exhibition of an interactive instillation Everybody Needs a Friend Like You in Brooklyn New York, her experimental videos, made with collaborator Sepideh Saii, have been shown at Queer Film and Video Festivals in North America, Europe and Japan. She is currently working on a performance project for Out On Screen 2007. May 10th will also launch the new look for www.mayasuess.com. Alexander Center is located at 611 Alexander Street.
