On June 23rd,2006 a very special event will take place at the historic Lensic Theater in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Veterans who have served in the Iraq, Vietnam and the Gulf War will be sharing their personal stories as a call for immediate peace on the part of the United States. One of the veterans, a nurse in Vietnam, is currently battling cancer due to Agent Orange exposure.
They will be joined onstage by well known war photojournalist, Laurent Guerin who will also be sharing his story of being in “war-zones” throughout the Middle East as well as showing slides of his photos, many of which have been featured in the New York Times. The other participant will be gallery owner and peace activist Linda Durham, who traveled to Iraq in 2004 as part of a woman’s peace initiative.
Tanya Taylor Rubinstein, the Artistic Director of LifePerformances/Project Life Stories states “of all the shows I have produced and directed over the last ten years, none have been more moving or more important than this one. We are listening to first hand accounts of people who have been on the frontlines of these highly charged issues. More than anyone, they know what really happens to people in war and what the consequences are. It happened to them. They are in a position to share their wisdom with the rest of us. There stories are of innocence lost, devastating pain and violence as well as redemption. These are stories that need to be told, and witnessed by all American citizens as a window into our past and present.”
Music for the evening will come from composer, Donald Rubinstein and special guest musicians, John Densmore of The Doors, Hani Naser ,and Larry Mitchell
