John Rex Endowment to Hold Hands of Health Award Breakfast

(October 3, 2007)—To recognize innovation in health advancements for Wake County’s children and youth, the John Rex Endowment will hold its Hands of Health Award Breakfast on October 23. The invitation-only event will be held at the Marbles Kids Museum (formerly known as Exploris) in downtown Raleigh.

“As we move into the fourth year of holding this event, we’re energized by the tireless efforts of so many to improve the lives of children and youth in our area,” says Kevin Cain, president and CEO of the John Rex Endowment. “This is an opportunity to recognize these individuals for all they do.”

Speaking at this year’s breakfast will be noted consultant, speaker and writer Terrence McNally. He will discuss the importance of using compelling human stories to convey powerful messages in order, ultimately, to enhance the well-being of children and youth in our community.

The winner of the Hands of Health award will be honored with a specially commissioned bronze sculpture. In addition, the John Rex Endowment will donate $10,000 to the winner’s charity of choice.

Past winners of the award include Peter Morris, MD, Don Rosenblitt, MD, Mark Piehl, MD and Yo Sobha. On their behalf, the Endowment has made donations to the North Carolina Pediatric Society Foundation, the Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood, the Durham Rescue Mission/Good Samaritan Inn, Camp Challenge Diabetes Camp at Camp Oak Hill and Camp Grace at A.E. Finley YMCA.
