The South Orange Historical and Preservation Society is Pleased to Announce the Appointment of New Executive Officers and Board Members


South Orange, NJ Sept 15, 2007 – It is with great pleasure that we announce the new officers and board members of the South Orange Historical and Preservation Society (SOHPS). SOHPS mission is to support historical and preservation activities within the Village of South Orange, NJ and provide recognition of landmark buildings and historic neighborhoods. During the Annual Board Meeting in May the following officers and board members were inducted.

Executive Officers

Gregory L. Burrus, a 10 year South Orange Resident has been elected as President of the South Orange Historical and Preservation Society. Greg's goals are to ensure the historical society becomes a strong and vibrant part for all the communities of South Orange, to save one the oldest buildings in New Jersey, the Old Stone House located behind the Police Station and to develop strong educational outreach programs that involve the SOMS Educational system, Seton Hall University and the residents of South Orange.


Other officers elected were Brian Hanlon, formerly President, has been appointed Vice President, Ted Straub, new member has been appointed as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair

Board Members

New Board Members that were elected are: Nina Barszcz of American Express, Ted Straub of the US Postal Office and Janine Bauer, Attorney and former Trustee of the Village of South Orange. Also selected as new Honoree Board Members are: Anya Ellia of Anya Ellia Interiors and Tom Villardi, Attorney.

The South Orange Historical and Preservation Society (SOHPS) was formed in 1986. The goal of the organization is to further the study of the history and architecture of the Village of South Orange, New Jersey. Membership and attendance at meetings is open to anyone interested in furthering our mission and goals.
