India remains top outsourcing location
December 13, 2007
Dec 14, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --India remains the top location for companies shifting IT services abroad although there are signs that its status could be at risk from other emerging, low-cost economies, according to a new report.

A new study from research company Gartner said that "India remains the undisputed leader in offshore services, but increasingly countries such as China, Russia and Brazil are proving credible alternatives".

Gartner analysed 30 countries in its study using ten criteria, including government support, labour pool, cost and language.

Ian Marriott, vice president of research at Gartner, said: "The aim of the study was not to rank each country, as every organisation will have a different view of which factors are the most important for their needs, but rather help sourcing managers determine which locations are right for their organisations."

Gartner also predicted that the outsourcing sector will grow further in 2008, with European and US companies' offshore spending set to rise by 60 per cent and 40 per cent respectively.
