Hearts and Horses Jolly Hollidaze Get into the Colorado holiday spirit by joining the fun at the Hearts and Horses ranch!
November 24, 2007: Hearts & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center is holding its first annual Jolly Hollidaze on Sunday, December 16, 2007 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“We want to open our ranch to the public during the holidays,” says Dori Eppstein-Ransom, executive director for the center. “So they can see what we do and how it impacts Larimer County's disabled community.”
The holiday event will feature Santa handing out free gifts, wagon rides, rodeo-type activities for children including roping, horseback rides, photos with holiday horses and elves, horse-bobbing for apples, and much more. Local vendors will also display their wares in craft booths, and food and drinks will be available.
Adults will be able to participate in therapeutic riding simulations designed to show the public how riding a horse is a truly healing experience for disabled riders. "Therapeutic riding is the use of the horse and equine-oriented activities to achieve a variety of therapeutic goals, including cognitive, physical, emotional, social, educational and behavioral goals," says Eppstein-Ransom. "It's truly amazing what a difference these horses can make in a person's life."
Entry to the event is just $4 per carload and includes a wide variety of activities, including horse autographs and cowboy boot ornaments. Some additional activities, food, and games require tickets, which will be sold on-site at the ranch the day of the event.
Hearts & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center is located at 163 NCR 29 (Carter Lake Road), about five miles west of Loveland on Hwy. 34. The center provides services to disabled children and adults. Therapeutic riding stimulates physical and mental capacities in an equine-related environment. The unique pairing of quiet, well-mannered horses with riders of special needs allows individuals to reach their maximum potential that might not be experienced in any other therapy setting. The center purchased the ranch in 1999.
