Atlanta, GA – 11/20/2007 - Positive Growth, Inc., a group home for troubled and homeless adolescent boys celebrated its 10th Anniversary at an awards event Saturday, November 17, 2007. The gala was held at the Omni International Hotel in downtown Atlanta. The event was part fundraiser and part celebration of ten years of providing a positive influence in the lives of troubled boys between eight and 18 in the Atlanta community. “This event was a celebration of the dreams that have become reality and the lives that have been changed for the better over the past decade,” says founder Joseph T. Arnold.
The event included an awards presentation to those who actively support the goals of Positive Growth, Inc. Awards recipients were Publix (Corporate Community Service Award), Mary Youngblood (Trailblazer Award), Jim Cox of Children’s Restoration Network (Pioneer Award) and Senator Gloria Butler (Youth Advocate Award). The evening included a silent auction to help raise money for the group home and a presentation of a $60,000 from WHO (Women Helping Others) for the renovation of the kitchen at the group home. Topping off the festivities was a performance by one of today's most sought after musicians, pianist/composer Eric Lewis.
“We were very fortunate to be able to introduce such an accomplished performer to our boys and supporters here in Atlanta,” says Positive Growth board chair, Rita Owens. Eric Lewis has worked with some of the jazz industry's biggest names, including Wynton Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson, Elvin Jones and Roy Hargrove. He was also the winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition.
Mr. Arnold noted, “Overall, the event was a huge success by showing what Positive Growth has accomplished and allowing the business community to see, first hand, some of our success stories.” The event was sponsored by Delta Air Lines, Publix and Atlanta Business magazine.
