French businessmen enlightened on investment regulations in Indonesia
December 06, 2007
France has had long standing business accomplishments in Indonesia and provided substantial contribution towards Indonesia’s national development. Mr. Darmawan Jayusman, the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board pointed out: “We would like to invite more French companies to invest in Indonesia. To simplify investment regulations and improve investment climate, the Government has issued a new Investment Law No. 25 of the year 2007 that provides better services to investors such as incentive facilities. In addition to being one of the most dynamic markets in South East Asia, Indonesia is opening great opportunities not only for French investors. This event is meant to also provide an extensive outreach to investors within Europe.” His beckoning French investors are endorsed by Mme. Catherine Bouvineau, the Ambassador of France to Indonesia who took up her post in January 2007. “On the economic front, France is doing well in Indonesia. Bilateral trade has undergone steady growth, with scores of top French companies already having a presence in Indonesia”, said Mme. Boivineau, “There was a lot both countries could do to improve the economic relationship. France can do much better and much more in energy, oil and gas, infrastructure and telecommunications”.
Based on the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS), France is Indonesia's sixth-biggest trading partner of the 27 nations of the European Union (EU). Indonesia's biggest trading partner from the EU is Germany, with $3.48 billion in trade in 2006.
