Dec 14, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --Dec 14, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --Online clothing retailer FLCROOKS.com, a division of private specialty retailer Crooks Clothing Co., Inc., has dropped the French apparel company Lacoste line from its product line up.
Although Crooks Clothing Inc. was authorized to distribute Lacoste from its F.L. Crooks & Co. retail store in Clarion, Pennsylvania, Lacoste's New York distribution office had ordered Crooks Clothing Inc to stop listing the products on its online store at FLCROOKS.com.
While the clothing store sells from its brick and mortar store in addition to its online operation, Crooks Clothing Inc. will only continue with lines that allow for unrestricted online distribution.
"We're only going forward with companies that want to contribute to fare e-commerce," company owner Jim Crooks said.
"We've been in business for over one hundred years and have seen lines come and go. We love Lacoste and regret that they no longer want us to represent their line," Crooks continued.
"We wish they would change their mind, but we respect their decision," Crooks added.
"Business is changing, however, and in order for us to have success with a line, we have to be able to sell it both from our physical store as well as our online store. Even our local customers want to see a product online before the spend money on gas to drive to the store," Crooks said.
Lacoste also prevented Crooks Clothing Inc from advertising Lacoste products on the website as a service to its local customers.
Lacoste said in e-mails to Crooks Clothing Inc that they were developing their own online store.
Crooks Clothing Co., Inc, founded in 1905, launched its online presence at www.flcrooks.com in 1997 and has since emerged as one of the most trusted and prominent online clothing retailers.
"Online shopping isn't just the future, it's now," Crooks concluded. "The internet can't be and shouldn't be restricted. Retailers perform an important function, and sooner or later, clothing lines are going to figure that out."
