Finally a place for "mums" to call their own!

Thanks to a fantastic new application called mumspace.net, Australian mums are now able to take advantage of the many opportunities available online including having their “own” space without calling in the experts.

Now open to mums everywhere, mumspace.net offers a free website, with an easy-to-use control panel that manages everything from how a mumspace looks, to what it contains, to how it works. Designed specifically for mums, mumspace.net takes advanced functionality and makes it easy for the average mum to use.

Each mumspace has its own unique look and feel, and gives a mum a chance to create something truly unique, without any need to understand the hosting and software configuration happening behind the scenes.

By default, a mumspace is similar to a blog, but other technologies found to be beneficial to mums have been, and are being gradually added as they are discovered. Out-of-the-box options currently include blog posts, photo albums, bookmarks, themes, and friends.

As a new site, mumspace.net works closely with its members in determining any new functionality. Currently in the pipeline is the ability to create and work with groups, to host shared event calendars and to-do lists and include content from elsewhere such as RSS Feeds, Flickr albums, Photobucket content and You Tube videos.

In comparison to the average freely hosted website, mumspace.net does not overpower each mumspace with branding – only one small link identifies it as a mumspace - relying instead on word of mouth and goodwill for growth.

According to co-founder Candice Pendergast: “Mumspace.net aims to give mums every opportunity to succeed, both personally and financially, and embrace the challenges that come with motherhood.”

In doing this, several premium options are being finalised, including a business mumspace model allowing members to use their mumspace to run or actively promote their small business. So far, the premium options include integrated shopping carts, branding tools, several advertising options, and a program to allow mums to share in any revenue generated from advertising within their mumspace.
