The latest enhancements specifically address section 508, a 1998 amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Section 508 requires federal agencies make their electronic and information technology accessible by people with disabilities.
Business Controls Inc., a private firm, added these features so their client’s employees or students could utilize the systems even if they are disabled. “We are so proud that all of our MySafe™ solutions are now fully compliant with section 508,” says Business Control’s President, Steven Foster. “As far as we know, we are the only solution on the market that has taken this next step to be fully compliant. Reporting parties may need accessibility-related software to enhance their experience with the systems; however, most computers now come equipped with those basic software packages. Also, if the reporting party feels more comfortable filing a report via the phone, they are prompted with an 800 number they can call.
The three anonymous reporting tools, MySafeWorkplace™, MySafeCampus™, and MySafeHospital™, were recognized this summer at the 2007 Colorado Software and Internet Association’s APEX Awards by winning the Distinguished Services Award.
