Coral Gables, FL -- October 1, 2009 -- BIGSTAR.tv has announced the grand prize winner of their latest documentary short film contest. "The Last Reed," submitted to the online competition by Jeroen de Mol, won first place after competing against dozens of other films and was awarded the $1,000 cash prize. BIGSTAR.tv's Documentary Short Film Contest took place from May 14th until September 11, 2009 when the contest closed and ten finalists were chosen.
“This contest was a very close one,” says Erik Marum, COO of BIGSTAR.tv. “There were many very well-done, highly-rated productions so the competition was tough for the winning film.
Ten competing entries, including the titles "Sexuality: The Documentary," "Street Pirate," "The "LC," "G20 Demo," "Freedom of Breach," "Tapping to a Different Beat," "Dust Dreams 2009," "Natua," and "Handball Paul Harber Promo" were rated by viewers, and judged by a BIGSTAR.tv panel of judges whose final judgment fell upon "The Last Reed."
"I've been making films for about six or seven years now," said contest winner, Jeroen de Mol. "It started with Ridley Scott's Gladiator. When I saw that movie I got chills down my spine and I thought to myself : 'I want to let people experience the same feeling I had when I was watching Gladiator.' That was my motivation to start making films. Gladiator somehow made me feel a thousand things at the same time. It's hard to explain. I hope that one day, somebody will watch one of my films and will feel things he or she has never felt before. A unique experience, as it were."
