(PR Buzz) September 8, 2009 -- “Bound for Glory: A Woody Guthrie Celebration” continues through the month of September at Casa Sandoval, a senior living community in Hayward, California. The Woody Guthrie Foundation unveiled this art, music, and film exhibit for the first time on the West Coast.

The first of five film screenings is set for Saturday, September 5th. Residents and the general public will enjoy “Bound for Glory”, beginning at 2:00PM. The story of Woody’s life, set against the Great Depression, was nominated by the Academy as the Best Film of 1976. The film came away with two Academy Awards for Cinematography and Original Score or Adaptation. Actor David Carradine was honored by the National Board of Review and the movie was awarded a four-star rating by movie critics.

The Woody Guthrie movie screenings resume on September 12th with “This Machine Kills Fascists”; “A Vision Shared” on September 18th; and a double feature on September 19th: “Hard Travelin’” and “Roll on Columbia”. “Man in the Sand”, with an introduction by Guthrie’s daughter Nora, caps off the movie screenings on September 27th.

Casa Sandoval’s own band, “Mr. C and the ET”, will sing Woody’s songs on September 26th, including: “This Land is Your Land”, “Hobo’s Lullaby”, “Grand Coulee Dam”, and “Lonesome Valley”.

The public is invited to attend the daily art exhibit, entitled “Strokes of Electricity”, and all Saturday afternoon movie screenings, free of charge. Donations will be accepted on behalf of the Woody Guthrie Foundation. The full schedule of exhibits, film screenings, and discussions is available at www.casasandoval.com/events/special.asp.
