Aug 28, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --After 30 years of not supporting Elvis impersonators, Elvis Presley Enterprises for the first time organized an Elvis impersonator contest during the recent Anniversary celebration in Memphis, TN
Since the event several facts have come to light which brings the legitamacy of this win into question. Shawn Klush, entered the last domestic regional round to qualify for the finals held in Franklin, TN at the Williamson County Fair just a week prior to the final. The regional prize offered was a mere $200 and the opportunity to sing with The Jordanaires, Presley's former back-up singers. (Klush has sung with the Jordanaires on numerous occassions.) In published reports after the win Klush mentioned that he was encouraged to enter the competition by one of the Jordanaires (who also claims to be one of the organizers of the Franklin regional contest.) The Williamson County Fair also contracted with Klush's own personal manager, Dan Lentino to help organize the contest and provide the back-up band for the contest, a band that frequently works with Klush.
Klush has previously been contracted by Elvis Presley Enterprises and its associates for concerts and appearances. Two days later Klush was crowned the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist in the Elvis Presley Enterprises contest in Memphis.
The Tennessee State Department of Commerce division of consumer affairs is fielding complaints from parties who have claims in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest.
Fans and Contestants have urged Klush to turn over the Kings Crown to Las Vegas resident and Elvis Tribute Artist Trent Carlini who is the next contender in line for the Kings Crown.
