A newly patented-pending invention would allow cell phone users access to a continuously-updated database of certain foods' nutritional values in order to monitor their daily calorie intake for diet control. Lake Charles, La (December 1, 2006) – A newly patented-pending invention would allow cell phone users access to a continuously-updated database of certain foods’ nutritional values in order to monitor their daily calorie intake for diet control.

Cell phone usage has soared dramatically in recent years. The 2001 Transportation Statistics Annual report, distributed by the Bureau of Transportation, reported that there were 120 million cell phone subscribers nationwide. This was a significant increase from the previous ten years when the usage rate was only 7.6 million. According to the internet’s Wikipedia, the total number of cell phone users worldwide was estimated at 2.14 billion in 2005.

Since the cell phone has become such an important part of our everyday lives, there are limitless possibilities for its future use. The ability to initially provide only voice communication is now overshadowed by today's technically-advanced cell phones capable of accessing the internet, processing visual data, and providing entertainment and accessory options.

One such accessory, the Cellular Phone Calorie Counter, was devised by Greg Pierce of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He realized, while en route to a bookstore to buy a calorie counter, that people would benefit from having such a tool readily at their fingertips—what better access than through the ever-present cell phone! Its use would allow greater ease and privacy without having to manually record values from bulky out-dated references. It would also allow the user to keep a daily running tally of other important nutritional values, such as carbohydrates, sugars, fats, sodium, cholesteral, etc. for wellness monitoring.

This product would be ideal not only for those trying to lose weight, but for anyone wanting to maintain a certain weight or level of health. The Cellular Phone Calorie Counter is likely to obtain a “healthy” percentage of the cellular telephone accessories market. The inventor is currently seeking potential manufacturing and distribution entities.
