Oct 15, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --It is often said that in India Corporates do not care about any other sports than cricket but recent triumphs of Indian sportspersons in Chess, golf, Shooting, Soccer and Hockey have turned some attention in favor of these sports too.
Not only are Corporates putting money into these sports but they want their members to participate too in these tournaments and this trend of Corporate teams participating in these tournaments have increased due to involvement of some event organizers in the capital. RAI Events organized 6 a side soccer tournament for Corporates on 13th and 14 th October. The event had 12 participanats and it was named “ Corporates Do Care…” in aid of NGO Ekal Vidyalaya.
It was indeed a rare sight seeing young executives rub shoulders with enthusiastic GMs and HR Managers in very competitive 30 minutes soccer games. Teams participating were Adobe, Patni, Genpact, Vertex, capital IQ, EXL services, net 4 india, airports authority, Ekal Vidyalaya, Save Family Foundation, TNT Logistics and Ernst and Young Consulting in this 2 day event.
The Games were were keenly contested and Finals were played between Genpact Technologies and Adobe Systems. Genpact won the tournament’s Platinum Cup finals 3-1 with Mayur Thapa scoring 2 and Esomond Lama 1. Captain of Genpact esmond Lama was named the player of the Tournament and mayor Thapa was the Most Valuable Player for the Finals.
Ekal Vidyalaya team consisting of Retd Commander jaitley and Dr Arun and other volunteers won the fairplay trophy for best team spirit. Prizes for the event was sponsored by “ New Horizons” and team jerseys were sponsored by www.teamsincere.com
Mayor of Delhi, Ms Arti Mehra was the Chief Guest at the awards function and she personally congratulated the winners and participants and in her brief speech stressed on the need to inculcate sportsman spirit and physical fitness regime among the children and youth of Today. Ms Arti Mehra also praised the yeoman work being done by Ekal Vidyalaya in tribal and rural Bharat progress and she gave away certificates and momentos to various dignatries of Ekal Vidyalaya that runs over 27,000 basic education, non formal schools in almost all corners of India specially so in tribal areas.
