Charity-minded Shoppers Using iBakeSale to Generate Money for Charities When They Shop Online |
Dec 03, 2007 -- /prbuzz/ --New York, NY – For the first time online holiday shoppers will be able to give a percentage of their online purchases as a donation to any charity or cause. The fundraising program iBakeSale (www.iBakeSale.com) is helping online shoppers get up to 20% of their purchases back as cash, which can be easily donated to a charity, church, or local cause of their choice. The program is completely free to use and automatically tracks purchases and contributions online.
“iBakeSale is a great new tool that makes sense for both holiday shoppers and charitable organizations,” said Kerri Kaplan, Executive Director of The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. “All our supporters have to do is use iBakeSale when they shop online and we get more money to help pancreatic cancer research.”
All donations generated by iBakeSale come from the retailer, not from the consumer’s pocket. iBakeSale harnesses money given by retailer as a marketing reward and directs it back to the consumers. Using iBakeSale, shoppers can shop directly at more than 400 leading online retailers, such as Macy’s, Apple, Zappos.com, or Wal-Mart, and receive a portion of the total purchase back as a donation to any cause they choose.
“Retailers have been partnering in-store with charities during the holidays for many years in the form of change collection buckets, or by agreeing give a donation to a specific cause based on sales of a product,” said Seth Sarelson, iBakeSale Co-Founder. “However, we designed iBakeSale to go a step further and actually generate cash rewards from online shopping and then give users the ability to easily donate that money to any cause they want. It’s like winning a prize for charity every time you shop online.”
iBakeSale recently released a new browser plug-in called Shopping Bag (www.getShoppingBag.com) allowing people to shop online using Google and other search engines, and still collect shopping rewards. Before Shopping Bag, many people found that online affinity rewards programs required too much conscious effort to use regularly. Shopping Bag requires no effort to use, automatically recognizing retail partner websites to collect a cash reward upon purchase.
Available as a browser plug-in for Firefox and Internet Explorer, Shopping Bag quickly installs in the browser and can be removed easily at any time.
