BRIARCLIFFE COLLEGE INTRODUCES CONCENTRATION IN ENTREPRENEURSHIP

New BBA Degree concentration to be offered at Bethpage and Patchogue campuses of Briarcliffe

(Bethpage, NY…December 3, 2007) Briarcliffe College’s Concentration in Entrepreneurship, a new curriculum toward a Bachelor’s in Business Administration Degree (BBA), launches in January 2008 and explores the question ‘What does it take to succeed in business?’ through a combination of theoretical and practical knowledge.
Known for preparing its students to meet the needs of the marketplace, Briarcliffe College designed the Concentration in Entrepreneurship in recognition of the fact that America’s economy is increasingly dependent upon small business.
Richard Sheldon, chairman of the Business Administration and Office Technologies Department at Briarcliffe College, describes the Concentration in Entrepreneurship as the “integration of functional study areas, including accounting, finance, marketing and management, as well as highlights to the legal and economic considerations in business operations.”
“Briarcliffe College prepares students to succeed both professionally and as citizens with a commitment to society,” adds Sheldon. “This Concentration will emphasize the qualities to operating a good business, but also the positive contributions business people make by being responsive to the needs of the community.”
In addition to an introductory course laying out the foundations to creating, developing and managing a new business, students are also offered courses in: Social Entrepreneurship -- exploring both for- and not-for-profit organizations; Entrepreneurship for Women and Minorities -- examining relevant market forces; Entrepreneurial Finance
-- providing tools and techniques in developing business start-ups; Managing Innovation – creative framework for new ventures; Entrepreneurs with Disabilities – interactive and casework studies analyzing challenges faced by entrepreneurs with disabilities; and Advanced Seminar – collaborative project work leading to a business plan.
“Businesses with fewer than 20 employees account for a majority of the enterprises making up our national economy,” stated Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, Jr. “Self-employment is on the rise with home-based and online enterprises growing rapidly. The introduction of a BBA Concentration in Entrepreneurship at Briarcliffe College presents us with an opportunity to provide our students with the business skills required in today’s evolving marketplace.”
All students enrolled in the Briarcliffe College BBA/management degree program, including freshmen, are eligible for the Concentration in Entrepreneurship program. Courses will be available at the Patchogue and Bethpage campuses. For more information on the Entrepreneurship Concentration, call 516-918-3600.
