E-mail Print PDF

September 15, 2009 -- Denise Turney (www.chistell.com), author of the books Portia, Love Has Many Faces, Spiral, Long Walk Up and Love Pour Over Gregory Campbell sits down with Off The Shelf’s radio listeners to discuss top qualities to look for in a literary agent. Turney shares information about the Association of Author Representatives (AAR), Literary Market Place and Writer’s Digest that will help writers to research the history of literary agents including their industry standings, the types of writers they represent and their fee ranges.

“Some writers might think that having any literary agent is better than having no literary agent at all,” Turney shares. “This is not the case. Keep in mind that your literary agent will work with book publishing house editors and acquisition managers to design your book contract. An ineffective agent might encourage you to sign a bad book deal that could impact your career for several years,” Turney continues. With more than 30 years of writing experience, four published books and hundreds of published non-fiction articles, Denise Turney has had her share of book industry lessons, some acquired the hard way. It is for this reason that she has decided to teach new writers how to avoid the mistakes she made earlier in her career.

Listeners can tune into the live feature interview on Off The Shelf radio at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Denise-Turney-. Off The Shelf is going into his sixth year on the air. The radio program conducts feature interviews with new, seasoned and bestselling writers, agents, editors, script writers, publicists and literary agents. Turney states that, “The goal for Off The Shelf is to encourage artists to continue to hone their craft and connect with an educated and insightful reading audience. The radio program also exists to encourage people from all walks of life, particularly youth, to continue to read good books and strengthen their literacy skills.”
