There’s no time of the year like Christmas. The excitement of decorating the tree and the house along with the aroma of certain foods being cooked all serve to create a sense of nostalgia. All year long most Americans yearn for Christmas.

On the contrary, there’s a segment of society that is finding the holiday season to be an inescapable emotional torture chamber of misery and depression. It’s not going to be tree trimming and pie baking for many of our fellow citizens. Specifically, there are the displaced American Citizens who are still dislodged from their homes as a result of Katrina. Many of them are living in situation that have robbed them of their culture, their friends, their routines and has even stripped their dignity. While certain in Washington D.C. are of the mind-set that Katrina is history, the reality is that Katrina is as much a crisis today as it was in August of 2005. The harsh and unfortunate reality is that it’s perpetually suffering victims, the proletariat, have no voice to speak for them.

For this sector the memories of what Christmas once was like in the city they called home and the house they called their own is a struggle emotionally. This year they once again find themselves living in a strange place and often without some of the most basic of needs. This degrading and humiliating predicament has driven some to the brink of suicide and other extreme behavior.

He comes to Houston to address all of the victims of Katrina living in Houston. He is respected as one of the spiritual fathers of New Orleans and desires to impart hope as any good father would do for his children. This proves to be a breakthrough moment for all who attend.
